The UK research-peptide market has grown quickly, and most of the growth has been in vendors, not in standards. This checklist is written for someone placing a first order — or auditing a supplier they already use — and it is deliberately blunt. Each point is something you can verify in a few minutes.
First, the legal position
Research peptides such as Retatrutide, Tirzepatide, BPC-157, TB-500 and GHK-Cu can be lawfully bought, sold and held in the UK for laboratory research use. They are not licensed medicines. A vendor cannot lawfully advertise them for human use, describe how a person should take them, or make claims about what they do in a person — doing so is advertising an unlicensed medicine, which is an offence under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 and something the MHRA enforces.
That matters to you as a buyer for a simple reason: a vendor's marketing tells you how they behave when nobody is checking. A site that talks about "your results" and "weekly protocols" is either ignorant of the rules or indifferent to them, and neither is reassuring about how they handle a cold chain.
The ten-point checklist
1. Is the product framed as research-use only, everywhere?
Not just in the footer. On the product page, at checkout, on the invoice, on the carton. Consistent framing is a sign that the operation was set up by someone who understood what they were selling. Patchy framing — a strict disclaimer under enthusiastic benefit copy — is the most common pattern among vendors that later disappear.
2. Will they send the certificate of analysis before you pay?
Ask. By chat, by email, whichever they offer. You are looking for a document that names the compound, carries a batch number, states the method (HPLC, ideally HPLC-MS), gives a purity figure and a date, and identifies who produced it. Here's how to read one.
If the answer is "after you order", stop.
3. Can you match the batch to the carton to a public record?
The certificate should carry a batch number. The carton you receive should carry the same one. Better still, the vendor should publish the current batch figures somewhere you can check independently — a batch lookup page, for instance. Traceability is what makes a certificate yours rather than theirs.
4. Do they say who made it, and where?
"Manufactured in Switzerland" is a checkable claim if it is backed by a certificate from that manufacturer and a consistent story across the site. "Sourced from a trusted partner" is not. Blended or re-labelled material from multiple origins is the norm at the cheap end of the market, and it's the reason certificates from those vendors don't match cartons.
5. Are the purity and content figures specific?
A real number for a real batch — "99.3%, tested 3 February 2026" — rather than "≥99%" repeated on every product forever. And be aware that purity alone doesn't tell you how much peptide is in the vial; purity and content are different measurements.
6. How is it supplied — and does that change what you're checking?
Lyophilised powder in a vial and a pre-filled pen are different products with different handling, and different failure modes. Neither is inherently better; but the vendor should be able to explain the format, what's in the box, and what the storage conditions are without hedging.
7. Is it dispatched from the UK, tracked, and with the cold chain in mind?
Peptides are sensitive to heat and to repeated temperature swings. A tracked next-day service from a UK address is the baseline. Anything that spends ten days in an international sorting hub in July was not stored the way its certificate assumes. We've covered storage and the cold chain separately.
8. Is the price explained?
Swiss-made, tested material is not the cheapest on the market and shouldn't be. It also shouldn't be the most expensive: a UK vendor holding stock domestically has lower costs than an importer routing single orders through US intermediaries. If a price is dramatically below the range, ask what was left out — usually testing, sometimes the peptide.
9. How do they take payment — and what do they promise about it?
Bank transfer and crypto are common in this market because card processors are wary of the category. That's normal. What isn't normal is a vendor who refuses to issue an invoice, has no company name or number, or won't confirm an order in writing. Look for a registered UK company, a real contact route, and terms you can actually read.
10. What happens when something goes wrong?
Read the returns and refund policy before you need it. A damaged carton, a missing item, a parcel that never arrives — a serious vendor has written down what they do in each case. A vendor with no policy has a policy, and you won't like it.
Red flags that should end the conversation
- Any description of how a person should use the product.
- Before-and-after photographs, testimonials about weight or healing, or "results" language.
- A certificate that only appears after payment, or that has no batch number.
- Identical purity figures, to the decimal, across every product.
- No company name, no registered address, no way to reach a human.
- "Pharmaceutical grade" used as a standalone claim.
- A checkout that doesn't ask you to confirm research use.
